Offence Summary

Jonathan Peter Clark was jailed for possessing 195 indecent images of children and breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order after an investigation identified him as uploading such material online.

Full Description

Jonathan Peter Clark, a 47-year-old resident of The Valley in Winchester, Hampshire, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for possessing indecent images of children and breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order. The case came to light following an investigation launched by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary in May 2023, when officers identified Clark as the user of an online account suspected of uploading an indecent image to the internet.

Clark was arrested in October 2023, and a subsequent analysis of his mobile phone revealed 195 indecent images, categorised from grade A—the most serious—to grade C. These images represented severe child sexual abuse material, highlighting the gravity of the offences. Clark, who was described as a repeat sexual offender, had previously been subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which he violated through his actions.

He was charged with possession of indecent images of children and the breach of the order, pleading guilty at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court in March 2026. On 16 April 2026, at Winchester Crown Court, His Honour Judge Parker KC imposed the custodial sentence, ordered the destruction of Clark's mobile phone, and granted a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order to protect the public from further harm.

PC Neil Nancarrow, from the Internet Child Abuse Team, commented on the case, stating: "Jonathan Clark is a repeat sexual offender who has continued to break the law, he clearly poses a serious risk to children and I am glad to see him put behind bars." The investigation underscores Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary's commitment to tackling online child sexual exploitation, with Nancarrow emphasising that each image depicts real abuse and that the force will relentlessly pursue such offenders.

The sentencing reflects the court's recognition of the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Clark, ensuring his removal from society for a significant period and imposing restrictions to prevent reoffending. This case was reported by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary on their official website.
