Full Description

Terrence Murtha, a 57-year-old man from North Devon, was convicted of three sexual assaults and jailed for five years, with orders to register as a sex offender for life. The incident occurred in 2021 after a party in Ilfracombe, where he was told he could sleep on the sofa but instead crept upstairs to the bedroom of a 22-year-old woman and assaulted her.

The victim described in a statement how the attack changed her life profoundly: 'The nightmares I've had were so intense and were the worst I had ever experienced. It felt like I was reliving this disgusting situation I was forced into over and over again. I was scared and disgusted to even be in my own home and couldn't stay there. I really struggled with day to day life. I was unable to go to work and this had a huge financial impact.'

Devon Live reported on the trial where Murtha was found guilty, emphasising the victim's ongoing trauma and the court's recognition of the assault's severity. He must register as a sex offender indefinitely due to the nature of the crimes.
