Offence Summary

Craig Anthony Anderson was sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison for sexually assaulting four women and stalking another over five months on the railway network in London and Surrey.

Full Description

Craig Anthony Anderson, aged 38 and of no fixed address, embarked on a spree of sexual offences between June and October 2025, targeting lone women travelling on the railway network across London and surrounding regions. Following a thorough investigation by the British Transport Police (BTP), Anderson was convicted at a trial in January 2026 and sentenced on 23 March 2026 at The Old Bailey to one year and 10 months in prison. He was found guilty of four counts of sexual assault and one count of stalking, and additionally received a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) prohibiting him from approaching, sitting, or standing near lone women, along with two restraining orders.

The offences began on 14 June 2025 at Bank Underground Station, where Anderson followed a young woman up the stairs, engaged her in unwanted conversation by asking for her name and phone number, and commented that she looked 'sexy'. Despite her requests for him to leave her alone, he sexually assaulted her before walking away, sticking out his tongue and laughing as he proceeded through the station.

Just over a week later, on 26 June 2025, Anderson attempted to converse with another young woman on a train at Guildford, soliciting her social media details. They exchanged phone numbers, but he soon harassed her via text for several weeks, sending sexual messages and images. On 15 July 2025, after she declined an invitation to meet, he followed her from Epsom railway station onto a train to Victoria, verbally abusing her and attempting to snatch her belongings. She hid in the toilets at Canary Wharf until he left, with the harassment continuing until his arrest in early October 2025.

  • On the morning of 2 August 2025, Anderson approached a young woman exiting Liverpool Street station, tapping her arm to ask her destination and requesting her social media accounts, which she refused. He then sexually assaulted her after exclaiming she was being difficult and requesting to touch her.
  • On 29 August 2025 at Westminster Underground station, he asked a woman for directions to Finchley, followed her up the escalator, sexually assaulted her, and laughed before heading back down.
  • On the evening of 6 October 2025 at Purley railway station, Anderson engaged a woman in conversation about directions to Gatwick Airport, boarded the same train, sat next to her, and asked personal questions including her mobile number and email. After she declined and threatened to report him, he sexually assaulted her, blocking her path until she escaped at Redhill station.

BTP officers identified Anderson from CCTV stills and he was positively identified by the victims in an identification parade. He was arrested during an interview at the Passport Office, where he claimed he intended to leave the UK soon. While being transported to custody under caution, Anderson made derogatory comments about the women he targeted and denied presence at the offence locations, despite contradictory CCTV evidence. Detective Constable Libby Wildego of the BTP described Anderson as 'a dangerous predator who preyed on women for his own sexual gratification', noting his lack of remorse as evidenced by smirking during questioning and voluntarily leaving the court before receiving his sentence. The investigation's success was attributed to the bravery of the victims who came forward.
