Offence Summary

Adam Ezalden, a 30-year-old man from Swansea, was found guilty of raping and assaulting a woman without her consent, using violence including punches and kicks during the attack in April 2024.

Full Description

In April 2024, Adam Ezalden, a 30-year-old resident of Waun Wen in Swansea, committed a violent sexual assault against a woman who had explicitly withheld her consent. Despite her clear refusal, Ezalden punched and kicked her on multiple occasions, demonstrating a blatant disregard for her autonomy and safety.

The harrowing incident unfolded when the victim, finding herself overpowered by Ezalden, managed to fight back by elbowing him in the face. This brief moment of resistance allowed her to escape and run away from the scene. The attack, which combined elements of rape and physical violence, left the victim traumatised and highlighted Ezalden's use of force to achieve sexual gratification.

Following a thorough investigation by South Wales Police, Ezalden was arrested and charged. In March 2026, he stood trial at Swansea Crown Court, where a jury found him guilty of rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The evidence presented during the trial underscored the severity of his actions and the victim's bravery in reporting the crime despite the ordeal.

Sentencing occurred shortly after the verdict, with Judge [name not specified] imposing a custodial term of seven and a half years in prison. Detective Constable Carys Davies of South Wales Police commented on the case, stating: 'This was a harrowing attack in which Adam Ezalden used his clear power over the victim to achieve sexual gratification, even using violence as he did so. He is clearly a danger to women and is therefore not welcome on the streets of Swansea.' The sentencing aimed to reflect the gravity of the offences and to provide some measure of justice for the victim, who was commended for her courage in coming forward.

The case, reported by South Wales Police on 14 April 2026, serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by survivors of sexual violence in seeking justice. Ezalden's conviction and imprisonment underscore the judicial system's commitment to holding perpetrators accountable for such serious crimes.
