Offence Summary

Krzysztof Zawada, a registered sex offender, was caught with further indecent images of children on his mobile phones and subsequently went on the run for over 15 months before being arrested and receiving a suspended prison sentence.

Full Description

Krzysztof Zawada, a 48-year-old man from Spalding, Lincolnshire, was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court for possessing indecent images of children and failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements. Previously registered as a sex offender for seven years following a 2017 conviction, Zawada had received a six-week suspended jail sentence for similar offences at that time.

In November 2022 and January 2023, police visited Zawada's home in Jubilee Close, Spalding, and seized two mobile phones. Upon examination, the devices were found to contain a total of 25 category A images—the most serious classification—44 category B photographs, and 331 category C images. These images depicted girls aged between 4 and 15 years. Zawada was charged with three counts of possessing indecent images of children but failed to appear at Boston Magistrates' Court on 27 March 2024, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant. Investigations revealed he had vacated his Spalding address at the end of March 2024.

Zawada spent over 15 months at large, evading authorities until his arrest on 12 August 2025 near Southampton, where he was discovered living in a tent. Following his arrest, he was held on remand for four months. In court, Zawada pleaded guilty to the charges. His defence, represented by Neil Sands, explained that Zawada had 'panicked' after being charged and made frank admissions about his interest in children during police interviews.

Judge Simon Hirst, presiding at Lincoln Crown Court, determined that Zawada's offending had passed the custodial threshold but noted genuine remorse and admissions of curiosity during a probation interview. The judge stated: 'I am satisfied there is a good prospect of rehabilitation, bearing in mind he has already spent four months in custody.' Consequently, Zawada was sentenced to 16 months' imprisonment, suspended for two years. He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and 40 days of rehabilitation activities, and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.

The case was reported by Lincs Online on 8 December 2025, highlighting Zawada's history as a sex offender and his attempts to evade justice. Lincolnshire Police were involved in the initial seizures and subsequent investigations.
