Offence Summary

Christopher Knight participated in a paedophile network that abused and raped young children, including live streaming assaults and sharing exploitative material online. He received an 18-year prison sentence.

Full Description

Christopher Knight, 35, from Manchester, was convicted as part of a seven-member paedophile ring responsible for the rape and assault of three young children—a baby, a toddler, and a young child—between 2013 and 2014. The group, spread across England, engaged in extreme sexual offences, streaming their attacks live on the internet to encourage participants and viewers. Knight's involvement contributed to the network's depraved activities, which included grooming families and travelling long distances to access victims.

At Bristol Crown Court, the court heard how the men shared advice on subduing children with drugs and used online platforms to coordinate and exchange abuse material. In one chilling instance, they targeted a pregnant woman to ensure access to her baby post-birth. The NCA-led investigation, triggered by Adam Toms' emergency call in September 2014, revealed the organised nature of the crimes, with children treated as objects for exploitation and traded among paedophiles.

Judge Julian Lambert described the offences as 'beyond human instinct' and 'shocking to all decent people', sentencing Knight to 18 years in prison with a six-year extended licence period. The judge emphasised the profound impact, stating that the acts 'provokes tears in many and makes others feel physically sick'. Knight, like his co-defendants, was added to the sex offenders register for life. The case underscored the horrors of online child sexual exploitation, with Det Ch Insp Simon Crisp of Avon and Somerset Constabulary noting the rarity but extremity of such offending.

  • Quote from Investigation Lead: Ian Glover (NCA): 'They had treated children as a commodity, to be passed on to others, to be filmed, to be abused.'
  • Judicial Comment: The depths of depravity were from 'the very deepest recesses of the mind'.
