Offence Summary

Lamont Geddes physically and sexually abused a woman over several years, including multiple rapes, assaults, and coercive control, making her life a living nightmare.

Full Description

Lamont Geddes, a 24-year-old man from Wolverhampton, has been sentenced to 19 and a half years in prison for a series of horrific physical and sexual abuses against a woman over multiple years. The abuse, which included six counts of rape, two counts of assault, controlling and coercive behaviour, grievous bodily harm, and attempted wounding, was described in court as having turned the victim's life into a 'living nightmare'.

The ordeal came to light on August 11, 2022, when the victim, after enduring a particularly violent assault, flagged down a passing police vehicle. She bravely disclosed the years of torment she had suffered at Geddes' hands, including threats to kill her and even threats to pour petrol through her letterbox. This courageous act led to Geddes being charged with 11 serious offences. Despite denying all charges, he was found guilty by a jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Detective Constable Beth Felton from West Midlands Police's adult complex investigation team highlighted the escalating nature of the abuse, stating: 'This case spanned over several years and the level of abuse escalated with Geddes making the woman’s life a living nightmare.' She praised the victim's 'incredible courage' throughout the investigation, which was pivotal in securing the conviction. The sentencing on September 27, 2023, recognised the risk and seriousness of Geddes' offences, with the judge acknowledging the 'true horror' of the abuse inflicted.

Geddes, residing at Douglas Place in Wolverhampton, was deemed a dangerous sex offender whose actions had devastatingly impacted the victim's life. The case underscores the importance of victims coming forward, as the police investigation revealed the full extent of the coercive control and violence Geddes exerted.
