Offence Summary

Zakaria Mohammed, 32, sexually assaulted and violently attacked a 21-year-old man on a train in Berkshire, breaching a previous Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Full Description

Zakaria Mohammed, aged 32, of The Coppice, West Drayton, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on 19 May 2026 after pleading guilty to Actual Bodily Harm, Sexual Assault, False Imprisonment and breaching the conditions of a previous Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

The court heard that shortly before 8:30am on Saturday 24 March 2026, Mohammed sat opposite a 21-year-old man in an otherwise empty carriage on a train in Berkshire. After making small talk, Mohammed, who had been drinking and was carrying a half-empty bottle of wine, sexually assaulted the victim. He then moved to sit next to him. When the train reached Reading station and the victim attempted to leave, Mohammed refused to move, forcing the victim to crawl under the table to escape. As he did so, Mohammed repeatedly struck him over the head with the wine bottle, causing cuts from which he bled heavily.

Mohammed was arrested by British Transport Police officers as he approached the station barriers. He was found to be in breach of a previous SHPO that prohibited him from travelling on public transport without a valid ticket. He was jailed for one year and eight months and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years. He was also made subject to a new 10-year SHPO and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187.

British Transport Police Detective Constable Lauren Pace said: “This was a truly sickening assault on a young man who was understandably terrified. Mohammed is a dangerous individual who saw nothing wrong with forcing himself upon the victim. Quite rightly he has been jailed as a result of our investigation and issued with a SHPO which will hopefully prevent him from attacking anyone else.”
