Alexander Olas, a 23-year-old man from Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court for a series of grave sexual offences against a vulnerable 15-year-old girl. The case, investigated by Humberside Police, highlighted the dangers of online grooming and child sexual exploitation.
The offences began in August 2022 when Olas contacted the girl via a social media platform. Over the following months, he groomed her, taking her to various hotels in Scunthorpe, where he booked rooms under false names to hide his identity. During these encounters, Olas engaged in sexual activity with the minor, assaulted her causing actual bodily harm, and strangled her intentionally. The exploitation continued until September 2022, when a concerned parent reported to Humberside Police that her daughter had been taken to a hotel by an older man.
Officers responded promptly, locating the girl and Olas at the hotel. A joint investigation with Child Services ensued, involving home visits to gather evidence. Initial enquiries confirmed the pattern of hotel visits and Olas's deceptive tactics. Olas evaded arrest initially, going into hiding, but was apprehended in January 2023 on suspicion of sexual activity with a child. His mobile phone was seized, and digital forensics revealed extensive messages across social media platforms documenting his interactions with the teenager.
- Pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child
- Actual bodily harm
- Intentional strangulation
- Witness intimidation
Further arrests followed in September and November 2023 after Olas failed to answer bail and new evidence emerged from phone analysis and victim statements. In a disturbing escalation, the girl reported receiving a threatening phone call from Olas, whom she recognised by voice, leading to his arrest for witness intimidation. Throughout questioning, Olas made no comment.
Detective Sergeant Tony Wilkinson from Humberside Police's Child Sexual Exploitation Team described Olas as a 'savage individual' who exploited the girl's vulnerability, grooming her to the point where she initially did not recognise herself as a victim. The investigation's success was attributed to building trust with the girl, enabling her to provide crucial accounts. Hotel staff's vigilance in reporting suspicions played a key role in the case's breakthrough.
On 14 November 2025, Olas was jailed for six years and four months, received a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. This outcome, as per Humberside Police statements, aimed to deliver justice and prevent further harm.
