Offence Summary

A paedophile from Pelton who possessed over 3,000 child sex abuse images and extreme animal pornography, and attempted to destroy evidence as police arrived.

Full Description

Darren Turner, a paedophile from Pelton, County Durham, attempted to thwart a police investigation by slamming the door in officers' faces and shouting to his partner to “get my laptop” as they arrived at his home. The 13th May hearing at Durham Crown Court heard that the disturbance was a desperate bid to conceal a vast collection of indecent material.

When officers eventually gained entry and examined the laptop, they uncovered a sickening stash of more than 3,000 child sex abuse images. The haul also included extreme animal pornography. Turner admitted the offences, which represented a serious breach of trust and the exploitation of children.

At Durham Crown Court, Turner received a suspended prison sentence and was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. He will also be subject to a sexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender. The judge condemned his actions and the distress caused to the victims depicted in the images.
