Full Description

Ruaraidh McCartney, a 29-year-old man, has been imprisoned for eight years following his conviction on multiple counts of serious sexual offences, specifically rapes involving three women. The offences took place over a decade in the regions of Stirlingshire and Perthshire, Scotland, spanning from 2011 to 2021.

The trial concluded on Wednesday, 5 July, at the High Court in Glasgow, where McCartney was found guilty. Sentencing occurred subsequently on Tuesday, 1 August, at the High Court in Lanark. This case highlights a pattern of predatory behaviour, as described by Detective Inspector Forbes Wilson of Police Scotland, who characterised McCartney as a 'dangerous and predatory individual' responsible for 'appalling' conduct against multiple victims over an extended period.

According to the official statement from Police Scotland, the conviction is expected to provide some closure for the affected women, enabling them to progress in their lives. The investigation was thorough, underscoring Police Scotland's commitment to pursuing justice in sexual violence cases, irrespective of the time elapsed since the incidents.
