Offence Summary

Hagi Welly-Sanneh, a paranoid schizophrenic, carried out multiple stranger attacks in Bradford city centre, including sexual assault on a prison officer and assaults on women, leading to a 48-week prison sentence and sex offender registration.

Full Description

Hagi Welly-Sanneh, a 22-year-old man of no fixed abode, was involved in a series of violent and harassing incidents in Bradford city centre, West Yorkshire, between October 2024 and February 2025. Described as a drug-using paranoid schizophrenic, Welly-Sanneh's offending escalated during a period when he was subject to a pre-existing court order aimed at addressing his mental health issues.

The offences began in October 2024 when Welly-Sanneh threw a concrete slab through the window of a man's home without provocation, causing criminal damage. In December 2024, he punched a woman in the face as she pushed her baby in a pram while walking with her other young child; the judge at Bradford Crown Court described this as a 'completely unprovoked blow' that caused the woman to fall to the ground while struggling to hold onto the pram.

  • In January 2025, Welly-Sanneh approached two workers and threw liquid smelling strongly of urine at them before fleeing the scene. The victims, unaware of the substance, sought hospital treatment.
  • On the same day, he shouted racist abuse at a woman waiting at a bus stop in Bradford.
  • In February 2025, he attacked a 73-year-old woman walking through the city centre, kicking her in the face and leaving her in pain, bewildered, and shocked.

Following his arrest a few days after the February incident, Welly-Sanneh shouted racist abuse at the arresting officer. Even while in custody in 2023, he had sexually assaulted a female prison officer by cupping her breast over her clothing. Recorder Andrew Walker KC, presiding at Bradford Crown Court, noted that Welly-Sanneh's mental health symptoms had improved in custody due to medication and abstinence from cannabis, stating: 'This was repeat offending during the currency of a court order that was designed to assist you with your mental health difficulties.'

Welly-Sanneh admitted to offences including sexual assault, common assaults, racially aggravated harassment, and criminal damage. He was sentenced to a total of 48 weeks in prison, though he had already served the equivalent time on remand since February 2025. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years and must comply with the terms of a community order imposed in 2024. The case was heard on 13 February 2026 at Bradford Crown Court, as reported by Yorkshire Live.
