Full Description

Kevin Dell, a 61-year-old man from Trowbridge in Wiltshire, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on 10 December 2024 for sexually assaulting two children. The offences came to light following reports to Wiltshire Police, leading to Dell's arrest and subsequent investigation.

Dell encountered his first victim through his previous employment as a postman. In December 2023, he repeatedly attempted to kiss the child, constituting a sexual assault. This incident was promptly reported to the authorities, resulting in Dell's immediate arrest. As part of the police investigation, an application was made under Sarah's Law, the Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme, which revealed additional sexual assaults committed by Dell against a second child. These assaults occurred between 2019 and 2021 and involved three separate counts of sexual assault on a child under 13.

Dell pleaded guilty to all three charges. On 10 December 2024, he was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, suspended for two years. In addition to the suspended sentence, Dell was required to register on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and was made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order as well as a five-year restraining order protecting the victims.

Tamara Barnett, from Wiltshire Police's Volume Crime Team, commended the victims in a statement released after the sentencing. 'I'd like to pay tribute to the victims for coming forward and the strength they have shown. They have shown immense courage and bravery, especially for young people,' she said. Barnett further noted Dell's lack of remorse, stating, 'Dell has shown absolutely no remorse for his actions and has even been bragging he hadn't done anything wrong, despite pleading guilty. I'm pleased he has now been sentenced and is the subject of lengthy sexual harm prevention and restraining orders.' The case underscores the importance of disclosure schemes like Sarah's Law in protecting children from known sex offenders.
