Offence Summary

Mohammed Aamar, a worker at Worcester Shrub Hill Station, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl while she waited for a train. He engaged her in conversation, lured her to a room under false pretences, and carried out the assault.

Full Description

A man employed as a contractor at Worcester Shrub Hill Station has been convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage passenger at the railway station. Mohammed Aamar, aged 35 and residing on Shireland Road in Smethwick, stood trial at Worcester Crown Court, which was sitting at Redditch, on four counts of sexual assault.

The trial commenced on Tuesday, 25 November, and concluded on Friday, 28 November, when the jury delivered their verdict. Aamar was found guilty on two counts of sexual assault and acquitted on the remaining two charges. Prosecutor Holly Sims outlined the case to the jury, describing how Aamar, identifiable by his high-visibility jacket, approached the 14-year-old girl as she waited for her train.

According to the prosecution, Aamar initiated conversation by asking the girl about her destination. After she responded, he checked it on his phone and directed her to the appropriate platform. During their exchange, he made complimentary remarks about her appearance, stating that she looked 'really nice' and suggesting she might be cold, inviting her inside for warmth. The girl, perceiving him as an authority figure due to his uniform, trusted him and followed him to what she believed was a waiting room.

Upon entering the room, the girl quickly realised it was not a waiting area. Aamar then made suggestive comments before proceeding to sexually assault her. The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, provided her account during the trial proceedings.

  • The incident occurred at Worcester Shrub Hill Station, where Aamar was working at the time.
  • The assault involved inappropriate physical contact following deceptive inducement.
  • The jury deliberated and reached a guilty verdict on two specific counts.

Following the conviction, Judge Nicolas Cartwright ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report on Aamar. Sentencing is scheduled for 23 December at Worcester Crown Court. This case highlights the vulnerability of young passengers in public transport settings and the breach of trust by individuals in positions of apparent authority. The proceedings were reported by Leda Reynolds, Court and Crime Reporter for Worcester News.
