Full Description

Christopher Brake, a 49-year-old man formerly residing on Frogmore Road in Market Drayton, Shropshire, was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment at Shrewsbury Crown Court on 23 October 2025, following his conviction in February 2025 for a series of grave sexual offences against children.

The offences, which spanned from April 2019 to April 2024, were primarily committed in the Market Drayton area. Brake was found guilty on two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault by penetration on a child, two counts of sexual assault on a child, one count of voyeurism, and one count of making an indecent photograph of a child. In addition to his custodial sentence, he received a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future behaviour and protect the public.

The investigation into Brake's predatory and manipulative actions was led by the Protecting Vulnerable People department of West Mercia Police, based at Shrewsbury Police Station. The complex probe highlighted the significant harm caused to the victims, who demonstrated immense courage in coming forward and supporting the case throughout the legal process.

Detective Constable Rhian Davies, one of the investigating officers, commented on the sentencing: 'I welcome today’s sentence of 18 years in prison, with an additional year on licence, handed down to Brake for these horrific offences. This significant sentence reflects the significant harm caused by his predatory and manipulative behaviour. I want to sincerely thank the victims for their immense courage in coming forward and supporting this investigation. Their bravery has ensured that a dangerous offender is now behind bars and can no longer cause harm to vulnerable people. I hope today’s outcome brings them some sense of justice and allows them to begin to move forward with their lives.'

The case underscores the dedication of West Mercia Police in tackling child sexual exploitation and bringing perpetrators to justice. Brake's conviction serves as a stark reminder of the long-term impact of such crimes on victims and the importance of robust investigative work in securing convictions.
