Nasarat Hussain, a 33-year-old man from Huddersfield, has been sentenced to an additional two years in prison for attempted rape as part of the ongoing Operation Tendersea investigation into historical child sexual abuse in the Kirklees area.
Hussain was originally jailed for 17 years in 2018 following convictions from the first phase of Operation Tendersea, a major police probe into the non-recent sexual exploitation of vulnerable teenage girls in Huddersfield between 2004 and 2011. This investigation has led to hundreds of years of custodial sentences for multiple offenders involved in the systematic abuse of young females.
In this latest development, Hussain pleaded guilty to the attempted rape of a then-teenage girl in the Huddersfield area, with the offence occurring between 2004 and 2007. The case was heard at Leeds Crown Court on 2 March 2022, where Judge [Name not specified in article] imposed the extra two-year term to run consecutively to his existing sentence. Additionally, Hussain was made subject to an indefinite restraining order to protect potential future victims.
The offence was detected during the comprehensive review of evidence in Operation Tendersea. Hussain's guilty plea was entered prior to the sentencing hearing. The total imprisonment now exceeds 19 years, with eligibility for release consideration still years away. DCI Ian Thornes of Kirklees District Police welcomed the sentencing, stating: "We welcome the sentencing of Hussain today for the attempted rape of a young female victim in 2004. This sentence will be served on top of the lengthy jail term he has been imprisoned for since 2018 and it will be a number of years before he is even considered for release." He further emphasised the severity of the crimes, noting: "Hussain and other men also convicted in this investigation were responsible for the truly dreadful exploitation of vulnerable young females over a number of years. We hope the significant sentences handed down by the courts serve as a stark warning of the punishments waiting for those who commit such dreadful crimes."
The Operation Tendersea investigation, led by West Yorkshire Police's Kirklees District team, continues to encourage victims to come forward, assuring thorough investigations regardless of when the offences occurred. This case underscores the long arm of justice in addressing historical sexual abuses within the community.
