Full Description

A Sheffield man, Wilson Tut, aged 27, from Adlington Crescent, has been jailed for six years following his conviction for rape and intentional strangulation of an 18-year-old woman. The incident occurred on 10 October 2024 in Sheffield, where Tut carried out the violent sexual assault on his victim.

The victim demonstrated remarkable bravery by promptly reporting the crime to South Yorkshire Police on the same day. Tut was arrested on suspicion of rape just three days later, on 13 October 2024. During his police interview, Tut denied the offences, maintaining his innocence. He pleaded not guilty to both charges at Sheffield Crown Court on 17 March 2025, which necessitated a full trial.

At the trial held at Sheffield Crown Court, the victim provided compelling testimony against Tut, detailing the extent of his violent actions. Despite Tut's continued denials and lies, the jury found him guilty of both rape and intentional strangulation on 13 August 2025. The court proceedings highlighted the victim's endurance through the ordeal of reliving the trauma in public.

On 22 October 2025, Tut was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court to six years' imprisonment. Additionally, he was required to register with the police under the Sexual Offences Act 2003. Kevin Sibley, the officer in charge of the case from South Yorkshire Police, commended the victim's courage, stating: “I would like to commend the incredible bravery of the victim in this case for providing crucial evidence in court that helped to put her attacker behind bars. His disgusting act caused her considerable pain, which was compounded when he denied his actions and put her through the ordeal of a trial.”

Sibley further emphasised the police's commitment to supporting victims, noting: “I am glad that he has been jailed for his crimes, and I hope that this result shows that others who have been victims of sexual offences will be believed when they come forward. We take all reports of sexual offences seriously.” This case underscores the importance of victim testimony in securing justice in sexual offence prosecutions, as reported by South Yorkshire Police.
