Full Description

A Lincolnshire man, Larry Roberts, aged 69, has been imprisoned for subjecting two teenage girls to 'sickening' sexual abuse over a period spanning several years. The crimes, which took place between 2004 and 2010, involved Roberts intentionally engaging in sexual activity, specifically masturbation, in locations where he could be observed by children under the age of 16, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.

Roberts, formerly of Lincolnshire, was charged with one count of sexual assault and five counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. Despite pleading not guilty, a jury at Lincoln Crown Court found him guilty on all six charges following the presentation of robust evidence. The victims, who were between 13 and 15 years old at the time of the offences, provided impactful victim statements that highlighted the profound and lifelong effects on their mental health into adulthood.

On 12 January 2026, Roberts was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, issued with an indefinite restraining order, and prohibited from working with children or vulnerable adults indefinitely. The court proceedings underscored the severity of the non-recent abuse and the resilience of the victims in coming forward.

Detective Constable Sarah Oliver from the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit commented on the case, stating: 'The complainants in this case have lived with the impact of these events throughout their adult lives. It was through their resilience and determination that they found the courage to come forward and ensure their voices were heard.' This outcome, as reported by Grimsby News, serves as a reminder of the ongoing support available for victims of historical sexual offences.
