Offence Summary

Andrew Murray, with accomplice Carl Stokes, kidnapped, raped, and murdered 31-year-old Lorna Slane by tying her to a bed, claiming it was a bondage sex game gone wrong.

Full Description

In 2002, in Northampton, 31-year-old Lorna Slane was killed by her boyfriend Andrew Murray, who was convicted of rape and murder. Murray, along with his friend Carl Stokes, kidnapped Lorna and tied her to a bed in a brutal attack.

Stokes was initially acquitted of murder and rape but later convicted of false imprisonment. He claimed he had been tricked into participating in what Murray presented as a bondage and rape sex game that went wrong, stating, 'I didn't know she was in any danger. I had no reason to distrust Murray.' The court saw through these defences, holding Murray fully accountable for the sexual violence and killing.

Murray received a life sentence for murder with a minimum term of 14 years. This incident involved clear elements of non-consensual restraint and assault, framed falsely as consensual activity. The case is part of broader patterns of violence against women in intimate or manipulated relationships.
