Offence Summary

Nicholas Alexander Llewellyn Adams was jailed for nine years and six months after being found guilty of 10 non-recent child sex offences, including indecent assaults and buggery, committed against a young boy over a decade in the 1980s.

Full Description

A 54-year-old man from Swansea has been sentenced to nine years and six months in prison following his conviction for a series of child sex offences that spanned over a decade in the 1980s. Nicholas Alexander Llewellyn Adams, residing on Rhondda Street, was found guilty at Cardiff Crown Court of 10 counts related to the physical and sexual abuse of a young boy who was under 10 years old when the abuse began.

The court heard harrowing details of how the abuse commenced with physical assaults, which escalated into forcing the child to perform sexual acts on Adams. This pattern of cruelty continued for years, resulting in multiple physical injuries to the survivor. The victim was silenced through threats from Adams, preventing disclosure of the indescribable acts at the time. The offences included five counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 14 and five counts of committing buggery with a boy under the age of 16, charged under the legislation applicable in the 1980s, where buggery was the term used for what would now be classified as rape.

In a poignant victim impact statement read during the proceedings, the survivor described the profound and lasting impact of the abuse. 'I will never know how different my life could have been if I hadn’t been subjected to the horrific sexual abuse I had to deal with as a child,' they stated. 'When it first started, I was told not to tell anyone, or I would be in trouble. I knew what happened wasn't normal, but I knew I couldn't tell anyone. I am finally glad this stage is over and I can close this horrendous chapter in my life. I feel by attending court today this is the final chapter in my psychological trauma caused by that man in the dock.' The statement highlighted the physical injuries and mental scars endured, underscoring the bravery required to come forward after decades.

The sentencing took place on 20 March 2026 at Cardiff Crown Court. In addition to the custodial sentence, Adams was subjected to a 10-year restraining order against the survivor and must comply with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Dyfed-Powys Police, who investigated the case, commended the survivor's courage in a statement following the verdict, noting the inspiring bravery shown in facing such long-standing trauma.

This case, reported by Dyfed-Powys Police on their official website, serves as a stark reminder of the enduring effects of non-recent sexual offences and the importance of justice being served, even after many years.
