Offence Summary

Adrian Gartshore-Taylor, a paedophile, was jailed for seven years for historic indecent assaults and indecency with a 10-year-old boy he groomed at a campsite in 2002.

Full Description

Adrian Gartshore-Taylor, aged 66 and residing at West End Road in Morecambe, Lancashire, received a total sentence of seven years in prison for a series of historic sexual offences against a young boy. Pleading guilty to four counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 14 and one count of indecency with a child or boy under 16, Gartshore-Taylor targeted his victim multiple times between January 1 and November 29, 2002, at Great Birchwood Country Park and Campsite in Warton, near Lytham.

As a car boot salesman living in a caravan on the site, Gartshore-Taylor enticed the 10-year-old boy to work for him, helping with sales of goods. He manipulated the situation by convincing the boy's father to allow an overnight stay in his caravan under the pretence of early setup for a car boot stall. This was a deliberate ploy to groom and abuse the child, with assaults occurring on multiple occasions inside the caravan. Gartshore-Taylor would show the boy computer games on his laptop as a means to initiate the sexual abuse.

The offences had profound effects on the victim, who attempted to take his own life as a result of the trauma. At Preston Crown Court, the prosecution detailed the grooming tactics and repeated nature of the abuse over weeks and months. Judge Robert Altham commended the victim's courage in coming forward, noting the lasting impact on his life. Gartshore-Taylor showed no remorse, leading to the imposition of the seven-year custodial sentence. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life. The case was investigated by Lancashire Constabulary, bringing closure to a long-standing matter of child sexual exploitation.
