Full Description

Mark Simpson, a 51-year-old man from Wallsend in North Tyneside, has been sentenced to three years in prison for a series of voyeurism and child sexual offence charges. The case, investigated by Lincolnshire Police, came to light following reports of privacy violations at the Butlin's holiday resort in Skegness.

Between 2017 and 2023, Simpson engaged in 34 incidents of voyeurism, with 30 occurring in the changing rooms at Butlin's Skegness and four at another location. He pleaded guilty to two counts of voyeurism after secretly recording individuals as they undressed. In addition to these acts, Simpson admitted to possessing a prohibited image of a child, taking an indecent image of a child, two counts of distributing indecent images, and nine counts of making indecent images. These 15 charges encompassed dozens of incidents uncovered during the police investigation.

Simpson's activities were exposed in April 2023 when a man reported that his wife had been spied on at the resort. A subsequent search of Simpson's phone revealed multiple voyeurism videos, as well as content containing indecent images of children. Investigators also discovered a hidden folder with an app displaying chat logs where Simpson had exchanged indecent and prohibited images of children with others.

At Newcastle Crown Court on Monday, Simpson was sentenced to three years' imprisonment. PC Andy Taylor, who led the investigation for Lincolnshire Police, stated: 'This sentence aims to provide justice for the victims whose privacy and personal space were violated.' He further added: 'I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone involved in this process, to reach this positive outcome today.' The case highlights the ongoing efforts by Lincolnshire Police to combat sexual offences and protect public spaces.
