Rory James was sentenced to 22 months in prison for making and possessing indecent images of children, including prohibited and category A images, discovered at his address in Runcorn.

Full Description

A 43-year-old man from Runcorn, Cheshire, has been imprisoned for possessing and creating indecent images of children. Rory James, who had no fixed abode, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, 2 April 2026, where he received a sentence of 22 months' imprisonment following a jury's guilty verdict on multiple charges related to child sexual abuse material.

James was convicted on three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing indecent images of children, and one count of possessing prohibited images of children. In total, authorities uncovered nine indecent images in his possession, categorised from C and B to the most severe category A. Additionally, he was found to have extreme pornography. The images were discovered by detectives from Cheshire Constabulary’s Online Child Abuse Investigation Team after they executed a warrant at his address, prompted by received intelligence about potential involvement in such activities.

Following his sentencing, James was required to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely and was subjected to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He was also mandated to complete a rehabilitation activity requirement as part of his sentence. The case underscores the ongoing efforts by Cheshire Constabulary to combat online child abuse, with the force acting swiftly on tips to protect vulnerable children.

Detective Constable Anna Hull from the Online Child Abuse Investigation Team commented: “Our team is dedicated to protecting children and are actively making enquiries into information we receive about those who may be involved in making, sharing or taking indecent images. You may think you’re safe looking at these abominable and illegal images in your own home, but that is not the case, and we may come knocking on your door one day.” This statement highlights the vigilance of law enforcement in addressing the hidden dangers of online exploitation within the United Kingdom.

The proceedings took place at Liverpool Crown Court, with the investigation led by Cheshire Constabulary, responsible for policing in the Cheshire area including Runcorn. No specific date for the offences was detailed, but the warrant execution and subsequent charges indicate recent activity leading up to the 2026 trial.
