Offence Summary

Lee Williams admitted to downloading indecent images of children and breaching a sexual risk order while on bail awaiting sentence for similar sexual offences. The case was committed to Carlisle Crown Court for sentencing.

Full Description

Lee Williams, a 24-year-old man from Whitehaven in West Cumbria, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to multiple serious sexual offences involving indecent images of children. The court heard that Williams had downloaded these illegal images while he was on bail, awaiting sentencing for identical crimes at Carlisle Crown Court later that month.

Prosecutor Peter Kelly addressed the court, emphasising the gravity of the offences. He stated: “These are not victimless crimes. Those children who are the subject of the images are ones (abused) because of the demand that exists in this sad world.” Williams admitted to three charges of making indecent photographs of children, committed between 12 and 14 November this year. One of these charges involved category A images, the most serious classification, which depict penetrative sexual activity.

In addition, Williams pleaded guilty to a fourth charge: breaching a sexual risk order (SRO) imposed on him by Workington Magistrates’ Court on 9 April this year. The SRO, a civil order sought by police, was designed to restrict Williams’ activities to prevent him from causing sexual harm. Despite this, he proceeded to commit further offences.

The court was informed that Williams was already facing sentencing at Carlisle Crown Court for engaging in sexual communication with a child, making and distributing indecent images of children, and possession of extreme pornographic images. Due to the seriousness of the new offences, magistrates committed the case to Carlisle Crown Court. Williams, previously of Fell View Avenue in Whitehaven, was remanded in custody and is next due to appear before a judge on 24 November.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about the possession and distribution of child abuse imagery in the UK, with police in Cumbria actively pursuing measures to protect children from sexual exploitation.
