Full Description

Charlie Trickett, an 18-year-old resident of Cwm Braenar in Pontllanfraith, Blackwood, was sentenced at Newport Magistrates' Court for possessing a large number of indecent images of children. The court heard that between 30 April 2023 and 4 March 2025, Trickett had in his possession 68 category A images, which are considered the most serious, 33 category B images, and 16 category C images, totalling 117 child sex abuse images.

Trickett pleaded guilty to the charges of possession of indecent images of children. In passing sentence, the magistrates imposed an 18-month community order, which included 120 hours of unpaid work and a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement. Additionally, he was made subject to a 12-month mental health treatment requirement, requiring him to see a medical practitioner or psychologist.

As part of the sentencing, Trickett was required to register as a sex offender for five years. He was also ordered to pay a £114 victim surcharge and £85 in costs. The case was reported by the South Wales Argus, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat child sexual exploitation in the region.

The offences came to light through investigations by Gwent Police, who uncovered the images during their enquiries. No further details on how the images were discovered were provided in court, but the guilty plea spared a full trial. This sentencing reflects the judiciary's approach to addressing possession of child abuse material through community-based penalties combined with rehabilitation and monitoring for young offenders.
