Full Description

A man from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, has been imprisoned for six years following his conviction for multiple sexual offences against young girls. Graham John Stubbings, aged 29 and residing on Hatterboard Drive, was found guilty by a jury at Teesside Crown Court after a five-day trial that concluded on 23rd May 2014.

The court proceedings revealed that Stubbings had targeted two vulnerable young girls, who were just 12 and 13 years old when he first met them. Between 2004 and 2012, he engaged in sexual relationships with them, leading to eight counts of sexual activity with children. The offences spanned nearly a decade, highlighting a pattern of predatory behaviour towards minors.

Detective Constable Jonathan Sygrove of Scarborough CID commented on the case, stating: "I am pleased that Graham Stubbings has received a sentence which reflects the gravity of his offending. His behaviour in targeting vulnerable young girls was disgusting and I hope he uses his time in prison to reflect on the distress he has caused his victims." The victims demonstrated remarkable courage by reporting the offences to the police and testifying in court, actions that Sygrove praised as instrumental in preventing further harm.

The trial at Teesside Crown Court underscored the severity of child sexual exploitation cases in the region. Stubbings' conviction serves as a stark reminder of the long-term impact such crimes have on victims and the commitment of North Yorkshire Police to pursuing justice in these matters.
