Offence Summary

Sohail Ahmed abducted and sexually assaulted two women in a flat in Glasgow, hiding the second victim from police who rescued her after a concerned friend raised the alarm.

Full Description

Sohail Ahmed, a 52-year-old man, was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow for the abduction and sexual assault of two women in the city. The offences occurred in December 2022 and August 2023, where Ahmed lured his victims to a flat and subjected them to serious sexual assaults, attempting to prevent their escape.

In the first incident in December 2022, Ahmed took his initial victim to the flat in Glasgow, where he carried out a serious sexual assault and tried to stop her from leaving the property. The second assault took place in August 2023, when Ahmed repeated the ordeal with another woman, abducting her to the same location and subjecting her to sexual violence. The flat was described as being in a state of severe disarray, with rubbish piled high from floor to ceiling, creating a chaotic scene.

A friend's concern for the second victim's whereabouts prompted a police call. When officers from Police Scotland arrived, Ahmed initially denied any knowledge of the woman and actively attempted to conceal her within the property. However, the officers' determination led them to review crucial CCTV footage, which confirmed that the victim had entered the flat but had not left. A meticulous search ensued, and the woman was successfully rescued.

Ahmed was found guilty following a trial on 3 March 2025. On 17 December 2025, he appeared for sentencing and was made subject to an order of lifelong restriction, requiring him to serve a minimum of nine years in prison. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and granted non-harassment orders in respect of his victims.

Detective Inspector Danny Clark, Greater Glasgow Rape Investigation Unit, said: “Ahmed went to extreme lengths to hide his guilt and denied any knowledge of his second victim, but our officers knew something was not right and refused to give up when he claimed he was alone. They reviewed crucial CCTV footage which proved the victim had entered the property and not left.”

Clark further commended the officers for their determination, noting the harrowing experience for the women involved and emphasising Police Scotland's commitment to investigating such crimes and supporting victims through specially trained officers and partner agencies. The case was handled by Police Scotland, with the sentencing reported via their official website.
