A Huddersfield man, Ashley Furey, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for a series of sexual offences and coercive control against a woman in the area. The case, investigated by West Yorkshire Police's Kirklees Adult Safeguarding Unit, highlights the force's commitment to supporting victims of sexual and domestic abuse.

The offences occurred between 2024 and early 2025. Furey, aged 33 and residing on Edale Avenue in Huddersfield, subjected the victim to sexual touching on two occasions and engaged in a sustained campaign of coercive and controlling behaviour. This included repeatedly turning up uninvited outside her home and making excessive contact, such as ringing her phone more than 100 times a day. The abusive actions were described by detectives as a 'campaign of hatred' against a particularly vulnerable victim.

The victim reported the offences to police on 21 January 2025, prompting a swift investigation. Specialist officers from the Kirklees Adult Safeguarding Unit arrested Furey within hours of the report. He was detained in custody and charged on 23 January 2025, appearing before magistrates the following day. Furey later pleaded guilty to the charges at Leeds Crown Court.

Sentencing took place on 11 September 2025 at Leeds Crown Court. In addition to the custodial sentence, Furey was made subject to an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim and was placed on the sex offenders register. DC Kelly of the Kirklees Adult Safeguarding Unit commended the victim's bravery, stating: 'As detectives we want to commend the bravery and dedication to achieving justice of the woman in this case. By coming forwards, making that very difficult first report, and supporting a prosecution, she has done everything she can to help us and the CPS put a man who clearly poses a danger to women behind bars.' DC Kelly further described Furey's actions: 'His sexual offending against this particularly vulnerable victim was appalling as was his subsequent campaign of hatred against her.'
