Offence Summary

Glen Noone was convicted of raping a woman in Lewes and sentenced to seven years in prison, becoming a registered sex offender for life.

Full Description

A man from Littlehampton has been imprisoned following a brutal sexual assault in Lewes. Glen Noone, aged 33, of Lammas Close, Littlehampton, was found guilty of rape at Chichester Crown Court and sentenced on 11 May 2022.

The incident involved Noone forcing himself upon a woman in a vicious and opportunistic attack at an address in Lewes. The prosecution was authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and stemmed from an investigation conducted by detectives from the East Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit of Sussex Police. Detective Constable Jo Barber, who led the investigation, described the assault as particularly callous, stating: "Noone forced himself on his victim in a vicious and opportunistic attack." She praised the victim's bravery, noting: "She has shown incredible bravery and patience in supporting our investigation throughout. Her evidence in court was key in securing this conviction."

At the sentencing hearing, His Honour Judge Rennie addressed Noone directly, emphasising the clarity of the evidence against him. The judge remarked: "You have been convicted on the clearest evidence of rape. Your brutish actions have had a profound effect. Your victim did absolutely nothing wrong and in no way was any of what you did her fault. You decided to have sex with her whether she consented or not and putting her through this trial was another cruel and cynical twist which compounded the harm already caused."

Noone received a custodial sentence of seven years and will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. Upon his eventual release, he will face strict conditions and ongoing monitoring by police and the probation service. Sussex Police highlighted the importance of their investigation in bringing Noone to justice, with the case underscoring their commitment to supporting victims of sexual offences.
