Offence Summary

David Allan Harris, a predatory paedophile, was sentenced to 19 years in prison for raping and sexually assaulting two children, including a teenage victim.

Full Description

David Allan Harris, aged 55 from Plumpton Road, Wakefield, was convicted and sentenced to 19 years' imprisonment for committing serious sexual offences against young and vulnerable children. The case, heard at Leeds Crown Court, involved three counts of rape and additional sexual offences against a teenage child at the time, as well as sexual offences against another victim. Harris's predatory behaviour exploited his victims in an appalling manner, leading to a thorough police investigation that began in November 2014.

Police enquiries were initiated in November 2014 following reports of the abuse, resulting in Harris's arrest later that month. The investigation was led by the Wakefield Child Protection Unit, highlighting the priority given to child sexual abuse cases within Wakefield District Police. Detective Constable Lisa Redfern, from the unit, described Harris as a 'predatory paedophile' who had been justly convicted and sentenced for his crimes. She emphasised that the length of the sentence reflected the gravity of the offences and demonstrated the courts' serious stance on such matters.

The sentencing took place last Friday before the hearing, as reported by the Wakefield Express on 11th November 2016. Detective Chief Inspector Sue Jenkinson of Wakefield District Police commended the victims' courage in coming forward, noting that their reports were handled with compassion and discretion by dedicated child protection officers. Jenkinson also praised the investigative efforts and expressed hope that the conviction would provide some comfort to the victims. The judge in the case commended Jenkinson for her work on the investigation.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts by West Yorkshire Police to combat child sexual exploitation, with specialist units working tirelessly to support victims and bring perpetrators to justice. Harris's conviction serves as a stark reminder of the long-term impact of such abuses on victims and the robust legal response to these heinous crimes.
