Offence Summary

Student nurse Navin Joseph Luther messaged a minor, who turned out to be a paedophile hunter, leading to a police caution and placement on the sex offenders register.

Full Description

Navin Joseph Luther, a student nurse working at Luton and Dunstable Hospital, began messaging what he believed was a minor, engaging in inappropriate communication. The recipient was actually a paedophile hunter who handed the evidence over to Bedfordshire Police. As a result, Luther received a police caution and was placed on the sex offenders register.

In April 2021, Luther was struck off by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, barring him from ever working as a nurse or midwife in the UK. Although he did not receive a custodial sentence, the professional consequences were severe, reflecting the zero-tolerance policy towards such behaviour in healthcare settings.

The case was reported as part of Bedfordshire Police's ongoing efforts to monitor and address potential grooming activities, even when they do not escalate to full offences.
