Offence Summary

David Loughlin, a Hunstanton businessman, admitted to inciting a 15-year-old girl employed to clean for him to engage in sexual activity by asking to 'play' with her body and suggesting financial benefits. He is due to be sentenced on June 2, 2026.

Full Description

David Loughlin, a 66-year-old businessman from Hunstanton, Norfolk, appeared at King's Lynn Magistrates' Court on Thursday, April 10, 2026, where he admitted to inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity. Loughlin, who operates the landscaping company North Norfolk Properties, abused his position of trust by targeting a 15-year-old girl he had employed to clean for him.

The incident occurred on September 13, 2025, when Loughlin engaged in an inappropriate conversation with the girl. He asked if he could 'play' with her body and offered to massage her, while also suggesting that she could benefit financially from allowing him to do so. The girl, concerned about his behaviour, secretly recorded the conversation, which she later reported to the police.

According to the court report published in the Lynn News on April 14, 2026, by journalist Lucy Carter, Loughlin's actions were described as a horrific crime that destroyed his reputation as a respected local businessman. The magistrates opted for an all-options report to assess the appropriate sentencing, and Loughlin is scheduled to return to King's Lynn Magistrates' Court for sentencing on June 2, 2026.

No immediate sentence was imposed during the court appearance, but the case highlights the serious nature of child sex offences and the exploitation of vulnerable young people in positions of employment. The prosecuting authority is Norfolk Constabulary, responsible for policing in the area.
