Offence Summary

Dr Rupesh Seth, a former healthcare worker in Dorset, was sentenced to three years and three months in prison after pleading guilty to multiple sexual offences investigated by Surrey Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team.

Full Description

Dr Rupesh Seth, a man from Wareham who had worked in various health settings across Dorset, has been sentenced following his conviction for serious sexual offences. The case came to light through an investigation conducted by Surrey Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team in collaboration with the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit.

Seth, who previously held positions at GP practices in and around Bournemouth as well as placements at local hospitals, was arrested in November 2020. He had pleaded guilty to a number of offences prior to his sentencing hearing. On 3 March 2023, he appeared in court and received a custodial sentence of three years and three months.

The investigation focused on Seth's involvement in online activities related to paedophilia, highlighting the dangers of digital exploitation. Authorities emphasised that there was no evidence of any risk to patients during his time in healthcare roles, and the incident was described as isolated. Debbie Simmons, Chief Nursing Officer with NHS Dorset, stated, “The actions of Dr Seth are inexcusable. Every child has the right to grow up safe from harm and all partners work closely together to try and achieve this across the county and beyond.” She further noted the NHS's cooperation with Surrey Police, which led to Seth’s immediate suspension from practice upon suspicion arising.

This case underscores the importance of vigilance in online safety, particularly in protecting children from exploitation. The conviction serves as a reminder for individuals to report any suspicious online approaches to authorities. Sources close to the investigation, including statements from NHS Dorset and Surrey Police, confirm the thorough nature of the probe that ensured public safety was prioritised throughout.
