Full Description

Catherine Pearl, aged 50 and residing in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, was a former assistant head teacher at Didcot Girls' School when she committed sexual offences against one of her pupils. The case came to light following a report to Thames Valley Police in 2023, prompting a detailed investigation by the force's Child Abuse Investigation Unit.

Pearl was arrested and questioned on 9 August 2023, and subsequently charged on 10 October 2023 with two counts of sexual activity with a girl while abusing a position of trust. She pleaded guilty to these charges, leading to her sentencing at a court in Oxfordshire. The offences involved inappropriate sexual conduct with a female pupil under her professional care, highlighting a severe breach of trust within an educational setting.

Detective Constable Sarah Tibble, the investigating officer from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, commended the victim's bravery in reporting the crimes. The investigation underscored the importance of thorough police work in such sensitive cases, ensuring that Pearl was held accountable for her actions. Pearl, of Sutton Close in Abingdon, was ultimately jailed for two years and four months, reflecting the seriousness of the offences committed against a vulnerable individual in a position of authority.
