Full Description

On Friday, May 30, 2024, in Llandbradach, Caerphilly, former university lecturer Jeffrey Warrington, aged 65, committed an act of exposure that left a woman terrified. Warrington, who resides on Portland Street in Aberystwyth, approached the victim late at night while completely naked apart from a pair of black sliders. He held his erect penis and called out to her, saying, 'Come here, come here!' as he began to cross the road towards her.

The woman shouted at him to stop, threatening to call her father. A passing car intervened when its driver yelled at Warrington to 'F*** off!', prompting him to leave the area. When arrested, Warrington told police that he did not believe walking around naked in public constituted an offence. This was his first conviction, with no previous history of such behaviour.

At Cardiff Crown Court, Bethan Evans, prosecuting, detailed the incident and read a victim impact statement from the complainant. The woman described the profound effect on her mental health: 'I can’t get it out my head. I never walk alone any more. I feel unsafe around males.' Byron Broadstock, defending, described the event as an isolated incident, noting Warrington's shame and embarrassment, as well as his struggles with alcohol and mental health problems. Broadstock highlighted that Warrington had difficulty explaining his actions and that it was a short-lived event.

Warrington had been remanded in custody for just over a month after appearing drunk at a plea and trial preparation hearing on October 20, 2024. Judge Paul Hobson, sentencing him, remarked: 'You were very drunk when you exposed yourself. This was a worrying and distressing incident for your victim. This was a sexually aggressive act and the impact upon her has been profound. The key to this offending was your alcohol problem.'

The court imposed a 12-month community order on Warrington, including a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement and a 90-day alcohol abstinence and monitoring requirement. Additionally, he was required to register as a sex offender for five years. The case was reported by the South Wales Argus, with coverage by senior multimedia reporter Iwan Gabe Davies.
