Offence Summary

Jeremy Farrow sexually abused a boy aged 10 or 11 in Thornbury, instructing the child to remain silent about the molestation until the victim reported it years later.

Full Description

Jeremy Farrow, aged 53 from Castle Court in Thornbury, was jailed at Bristol Crown Court for historical sexual abuse against a young boy. The offences occurred when the victim was just 10 or 11 years old, involving Farrow molesting the child and explicitly telling him not to disclose the abuse. The boy kept silent for years until the trauma became overwhelming, prompting him to email his mother with a detailed account of the incidents.

Following the report, Avon and Somerset Police arrested Farrow, who had breached a prior Sexual Offence Prevention Order (SOPO). Farrow pleaded guilty to causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 16, and breaching the SOPO. The court recognised the severe psychological harm inflicted on the victim, who demonstrated remarkable courage and maturity in coming forward.

  • The abuse took place in Thornbury, leaving lasting emotional scars on the youngster.
  • Farrow's actions were described by the judge as causing 'severe, psychological harm' to the young man.

The Recorder of Bristol, His Honour Judge Peter Blair QC, sentenced Farrow to seven and a half years in prison. He was barred from working with children and required to comply with indefinite sex offender notifications. Bristol Live's coverage of the case, reported in 2021, emphasises the role of open justice in building public confidence and deterring crime through transparency.

This sentencing reflects the court's commitment to protecting vulnerable children and holding perpetrators accountable, even for historical offences.
