Full Description

Daniel Raymond Cooper, a 32-year-old man previously residing on Drummond Road in Bournemouth, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a series of sexual offences committed against a young girl in Rotherham. The abuse, which spanned from 1999 to 2004, involved multiple acts of sexual exploitation targeting a child under the age of 13.

Cooper appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on 3 November 2015, where he pleaded guilty on the second day of his trial to five counts, including indecent assault, sexual activity with a child, and attempted unlawful sexual activity with a child under 13 years old. The court heard that Cooper had moved out of Rotherham a year after the abuse ceased, but the victim came forward in May 2014 to report the crimes to the police, initiating a thorough investigation.

Following his guilty plea, Judge [name not specified in article] imposed a seven-year custodial sentence on Cooper. In addition, he was issued with an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, prohibiting him from having unsupervised contact with any child under 16 years of age. This order aims to protect vulnerable children from potential future harm.

Police Constable Natasha Mangham from Rotherham’s child sexual exploitation team commended the victim's courage, stating: “The victim in this case has shown tremendous strength of character and courage throughout a lengthy and complex investigation. I am glad Cooper finally accepted responsibility for his despicable crimes and spared the victim the further trauma of reliving her abuse before the courts.” The investigation was conducted by South Yorkshire Police, highlighting their commitment to addressing child sexual exploitation in the region.

This case underscores the long-term impact of child sexual abuse and the importance of victims coming forward, even years after the events. Cooper's conviction serves as a reminder of the severe legal consequences for such offences, with the judiciary ensuring public safety through stringent sentencing and protective measures.
