Full Description

A 21-year-old man from Peterborough, identified as Zak Reeve, was discovered to be in possession of a large collection of indecent images of children during an unrelated police investigation. The case came to light when Reeve was arrested in connection with an arson incident in February 2024, though no further action was taken regarding the fire.

While in custody, officers from Cambridgeshire Constabulary conducted a routine download of Reeve's mobile phone, uncovering hundreds of indecent images and videos depicting children. Over 100 of these were classified as category A, the most serious level under UK sentencing guidelines for such offences. A subsequent search of Reeve's home at Eagle Way, Hampton Centre, revealed additional images stored on a laptop and a second mobile phone.

Reeve, residing in the Hampton Centre area of Peterborough, pleaded guilty to two counts: making indecent images and distributing indecent photographs. His sentencing took place at Peterborough Crown Court on 19 September 2024, where he was handed a prison term of one year and 10 months. In addition, a sexual harm prevention order was imposed for a duration of 10 years to restrict his activities and protect the public.

Detective Constable Zip Lloyd, the investigating officer from Cambridgeshire Constabulary, commented on the outcome: 'I’m glad we were alerted to Reeve’s offending and we’ve been able to secure justice today. Our specialist officers work tirelessly to monitor sex offenders and make sure they stick to the conditions of their orders. The orders aim to keep victims and vulnerable people safe, and we won’t hesitate to put offenders before the courts if breaches are found.' This case underscores the importance of thorough police procedures in uncovering hidden criminality, even during investigations for unrelated matters.

The indecent images offences fall under the Protection of Children Act 1978 and related legislation, highlighting the severe nature of child sexual exploitation material. Cambridgeshire Constabulary's proactive approach ensured that Reeve's guilty plea expedited the judicial process, resulting in his immediate incarceration.
