Full Description

A Brighton man, Toby Macenzie, aged 24, from Carlyle Street in Brighton, has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison following his conviction for serious sexual offences against two teenage girls in 2018. The case, investigated by Sussex Police, came to light after reports from the victims detailing assaults by Macenzie, who was known to them at the time.

The offences occurred in 2018. The first incident involved a 16-year-old girl whom Macenzie met on holiday. He attempted to rape her and subjected her to a serious sexual assault. In a separate event in June 2018, Macenzie provided alcohol to a 15-year-old girl at his home. She awoke in a bedroom to find him raping her. Feeling unwell and unable to leave the room, she was raped a second time by Macenzie. Text messages exchanged after the attacks revealed the victim clearly stating that she had not consented, with Macenzie responding with apologies for his actions.

Sussex Police arrested Macenzie and charged him with two counts of raping a girl, attempted rape of a woman over 16, and assault by penetration. The trial took place at Brighton Crown Court, where the victims were supported by specialist officers throughout the process. Detective Constable Stewart Cameron, who led the investigation, commended the victims' courage: "Both of these women have shown incredible courage to not only report Macenzie’s crimes, but support what has been a long and complex investigation. Thanks to their resolve, a dangerous offender is now behind bars where he can cause no further harm to women and girls."

The sentencing on 7 November 2025 marked the culmination of a protracted legal process, ensuring Macenzie's removal from society to prevent further harm. This case underscores the importance of reporting sexual offences, as highlighted by the police statement encouraging victims to come forward for support and justice.
