Offence Summary

Tamin Rahmani hosted the rape of a 16-year-old girl at his Ramsgate flat after she asked his group for directions.

Full Description

Tamin Rahmani, 37, from Northwood Road, Ramsgate, was convicted alongside three others at Canterbury Crown Court for the rape of a 16-year-old girl. The crime occurred at Rahmani's home in the early hours of 18 September 2016. The victim had approached the men for directions to her friend's house after becoming lost following a night out in Ramsgate, but they instead took her to the flat and assaulted her.

After the attack, the girl was removed from the premises and abandoned on the street in a distressed state. Two passers-by, also returning from a night out, noticed her crying, brought her to their home, and contacted Kent Police immediately. The rapid response from the force, including the use of forensic evidence and CCTV, led to Rahmani's arrest on the same day as the incident. Detective Inspector Richard Vickery commented on the severity: 'It was late at night, she was lost and she asked a group of men for directions. Instead, they saw an opportunity to fulfil their depraved sexual desires and betrayed the trust she placed in them in the worst possible way.'

Rahmani, Rafiullah Hamidy, Shershah Muslimyar, and Hamid Mohamadi all pleaded not guilty but were convicted on Friday at Canterbury Crown Court. They remain in custody awaiting a sentencing hearing, as detailed in BBC coverage published on 29 March 2017. This case involved a coordinated effort by Kent Police, including international cooperation for one suspect's extradition.
