Offence Summary

Timothy Boorman, a 60-year-old man from Swansea, was jailed for six years after travelling over 200 miles to Kent with the intention of meeting a child for sexual activity, where he was arrested by police.

Full Description

A man from Swansea has been sentenced to six years in prison for child sex offences following a journey of more than 200 miles to meet a child for sexual activity. Timothy Boorman, aged 60 and residing in Killay, initiated online communication with a child before embarking on the trip to north Kent on 13 August.

Authorities from Kent Police believe Boorman undertook the extensive travel with the explicit intention of engaging in sexual activity with the child. Upon his arrival in north Kent, officers intercepted him and placed him under arrest, subsequently taking him into custody. He was charged with offences including arranging the commission of the rape of a child.

Boorman appeared at Maidstone Crown Court and pleaded guilty at his first hearing. On Friday, 14 November, he received his sentence of six years' imprisonment and was made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order to restrict his future conduct and protect the public, particularly children.

Investigating officer PC Aimee Edwards commented on the case, stating: "Boorman is a danger to children and was prepared to travel a considerable distance to commit appalling offences. He was intercepted by our patrols and was placed before the court at the earliest opportunity. When this criminal is released from prison he will be subject to a strict court order that imposes conditions on his ongoing conduct. He will then receive regular unannounced visits from officers who will be checking he is complying with these restrictions." The case was reported by Wales Updates, highlighting the collaborative efforts between South Wales Police and Kent Police in addressing such threats across regions.
