Full Description

Devanaden Armoogum, a 48-year-old support worker, was jailed for 10 years and five months for raping a vulnerable adult resident at a property in Exeter where he was placed in overnight charge despite never having worked there before. The incident occurred when the resident, who had complex needs, woke in the night crying over memories of previous sexual abuse.

Armoogum exploited her vulnerability by groping her, removing her pyjamas, exposing himself, and ordering her to perform oral sex. She froze in fear during the assault. The next day, she raised the alarm, leading to his arrest.

Exeter Crown Court heard the details of this twisted abuse of position by the care worker. Devon Live coverage highlighted the betrayal of trust in a professional care setting, with the victim suffering further trauma from the rape.
