Offence Summary

Lewis Harrison was convicted of four counts of sexual activity with a child after grooming and abusing a teenage girl, whom he kissed and intimately touched without consent. He was jailed for two-and-a-half years and required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

Full Description

A 'brave' teenage girl played a pivotal role in the conviction of Lewis Harrison, a 32-year-old man from Hull, by secretly recording his abusive behaviour using a hidden camera on her phone. Harrison, who knew the girl's age, became sexually attracted to her following initial contact and engaged in a series of inappropriate incidents involving grooming and non-consensual acts.

The case came to light at Hull Crown Court, where Harrison denied four offences of sexual activity with a child. Despite his denials, a jury found him guilty after a trial. Judge Mark Bury remarked that Harrison's claim of merely comforting the girl was 'frankly absurd', highlighting the clear evidence of sexual misconduct. The court heard that Harrison had kissed the teenager without her consent and intimately touched her, with evidence pointing to deliberate grooming and planning on his part.

During the sentencing, mitigating barrister Stephen Robinson argued that Harrison was struggling with heavy drinking and crack cocaine use at the time of the offences. However, Judge Bury rejected this, stating there was no evidence that Harrison committed the acts under the influence of alcohol or drugs, nor that he had supplied any to the victim. The judge noted previous inappropriate behaviour by Harrison towards the girl, though she lacked proof at the time.

Harrison, residing on Biggin Avenue in Bransholme, Hull, was convicted on the four charges but cleared of two others. He received a custodial sentence of two-and-a-half years, was placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years, and subjected to a five-year restraining order to protect the victim.

This case, reported by ITV News Calendar on 25 July 2023, underscores the courage of the victim in gathering evidence that led to Harrison's downfall, ensuring accountability for his predatory actions.
