Offence Summary

Kai Giggie abducted a 12-year-old boy from Wales and took him to London on a train after grooming him by lying about his age, and sexually assaulted several teenage boys. He was sentenced to three years' imprisonment at Newport Crown Court.

Full Description

Kai Giggie, a 26-year-old man from Bridgend, Wales, was convicted of abducting a 12-year-old boy and engaging in sexual offences against children. Having previously been convicted of a similar offence in Aberdeen involving the sexual abuse of a 14-year-old boy, Giggie targeted vulnerable young boys by fabricating stories about his own background to gain their trust.

In the case of his primary victim, Giggie groomed the 12-year-old by pretending to be a teenager of similar age. He spent money on the boy, buying him food, and persuaded him to join a trip to London by train. Despite the boy's reluctance, Giggie pressured him by claiming the tickets were already paid for. The boy lied to his mother about his whereabouts and travelled with Giggie, not returning to Wales until 11pm that evening. When the boy's mother grew concerned, Giggie attempted to deceive her by phoning and posing as a railway staff member to placate her worries.

Giggie employed similar manipulative tactics with a second victim, a 13-year-old boy. He claimed to be a teenage rape victim in foster care, even threatening suicide to elicit sympathy from the boy's mother. Giggie further bolstered his false persona by mentioning a fake ID for buying vapes and explaining his school absence as advice from a social worker. Having gained the boy's trust, he engaged in sexual activity with him.

Additionally, Giggie sexually assaulted two other teenage boys: he placed his head on the thigh of a 14-year-old and 'spooned' a 13-year-old while the boy was lying down. Following his arrest by South Wales Police, Giggie provided no comment during interviews. He later pleaded guilty at Newport Crown Court to one count of abducting a child, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

During the sentencing hearing on Friday, 30 January 2026, Recorder Andrew Hammond condemned Giggie's actions, stating: 'You lied about your age, background and circumstances... There is clear evidence of a sustained and sophisticated campaign of manipulation to inveigle your way into close proximity to children. You told lies to these children, their parents, and grandparents about being a teenager and lied about being in local authority care.' In mitigation, defence barrister Jac Brown highlighted Giggie's mental health difficulties and neurodevelopmental issues, requesting a lenient sentence.

Giggie, who was residing at HMP Parc at the time, received a total sentence of three years' imprisonment. He was also subjected to 10-year restraining orders, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and sex offender notification requirements. The case was reported by Wales Online, with court proceedings held at Newport Crown Court in Wales.
