Offence Summary

Nathaniel Martin, a registered sex offender, was jailed for eight months after being found in possession of indecent images and videos of children, breaching a previous suspended sentence for similar offences.

Full Description

A registered sex offender from St Neots, Huntingdonshire, has been imprisoned following the discovery of child sexual abuse material on his mobile phone. Nathaniel Martin, aged 34 and residing at Maule Close, Eynesbury, was previously convicted in 2021 of three counts of making indecent images of children. At that time, he received a 10-month prison sentence, which was suspended for two years, and he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register. He was also subject to monitoring by Cambridgeshire Constabulary's Management of Sexual or Violent Offender (MOSOVO) team.

In September 2023, MOSOVO officers conducted an unannounced visit to Martin's home and noticed a suspicious five-day gap in the internet search history on his mobile phone. Upon further examination, the device was found to contain 117 indecent images and 10 indecent videos of children, with 30 images and five videos classified as category A—the most severe category. This discovery indicated that Martin had failed to comply with the conditions of his suspended sentence and continued to engage in the possession of child sexual abuse material.

Martin admitted to three counts of making indecent images of children at Huntingdon Magistrates' Court on 22 August 2024. Subsequently, on 8 November 2024, at Peterborough Crown Court, he was sentenced to eight months in prison. The case was handled by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, with Detective Sergeant Andrew Lunn commenting on the importance of the MOSOVO team's work: 'Our main aim in the MOSOVO team is to protect vulnerable children, whether in the real world or online. Cases such as these help to highlight that work, which most of the time goes on behind the scenes. A child is victimised when an indecent image is taken and every time it is viewed or shared.' Lunn further noted that Martin's offending demonstrated a failure to heed the previous warning, adding: 'I hope he now reflects on his actions and he will continue to be monitored by the team on his release from prison.'

This sentencing underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to manage and rehabilitate sex offenders, ensuring public safety and preventing further harm to children. The indecent images and videos involved severe exploitation, reinforcing the gravity of such offences under UK law.
