Full Description

Nicholas Emberson, a 42-year-old father from Saffron Walden in Essex, appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday after admitting to possessing an extreme pornographic image and making indecent photographs of a child.

The case came to light in January 2024 when police received information indicating that Emberson’s internet connection had been used to access indecent images of children. Investigations revealed that Emberson had viewed extreme pornographic videos and conducted searches for 'daddy-daughter pornography'. He was arrested at his home in March 2024, where he lived with his wife and their young daughter, who was almost two years old at the time.

Prosecutor Ms John-Baptiste outlined the details during the hearing, emphasising the nature of the material accessed. In mitigation, Coral Fitzgerald explained that Emberson had initially begun viewing legal pornography, but over time, his behaviour escalated incrementally. 'He now describes it as an addiction,' Ms Fitzgerald stated. She noted that Emberson had proactively sought help for his issues of his own volition.

The court was informed that Emberson's wife, mother, and employers had provided incredible support throughout the proceedings. Magistrates imposed a sentence of six months' imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. Additional requirements included completing 26 days with Building Choices, an accredited Offending Behaviour Programme; 25 days of rehabilitation activity; and 120 hours of unpaid work. A sexual harm prevention order was also issued for seven years, along with £264 in total costs.

This case highlights the authorities' response to online child exploitation, with Essex Police initiating the investigation based on intelligence received. The sentencing reflects a balance between punishment and rehabilitation, given Emberson's admissions and efforts to address his behaviour.
