Offence Summary

Paedophile teacher Liam Cox paid a boy money to send him sex videos of himself over Snapchat and was convicted of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Full Description

Liam Cox, a 30-year-old teacher from Blackwood, was convicted of serious child sex offences after paying an underage boy to produce and send explicit videos via Snapchat.

Cox was found guilty by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court of two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity. The court heard that the defendant had offered money to the boy in exchange for the sex videos. During the investigation, Cox lied to police, falsely claiming he was the victim of a blackmail plot orchestrated by the underage boy. He denied the offences throughout the trial and continued to do so even after conviction.

The case, which shocked the local community due to Cox's position as a teacher, was prosecuted by Gwent Police. Judge Rhys Harrison described the defendant's actions as predatory and exploitative. Cox was sentenced to four years and six months in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for life. The sentencing took place in 2025 as part of major Gwent court cases.
