Full Description

On 23 June 2023, James Michael Ford, a 33-year-old man from Dines Close in Andover, committed multiple sexual offences against four victims in the Andover area. These incidents, investigated by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, involved sexual assault and indecent exposure, leading to his arrest and subsequent sentencing at Winchester Crown Court.

The first incident occurred around 1pm on Anton Lane, where Ford cycled past a 29-year-old woman, dismounted his bicycle, pulled down his trousers, and touched himself inappropriately in front of her. Shortly afterwards, at the junction of Colonzo Drive and Vigo Road, he cycled past a 17-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her. Later, at approximately 2.45pm, a 23-year-old woman reported seeing Ford masturbating in bushes on Picket Twenty. The final assault took place around 4pm on Anton Lane Path, where Ford cycled past a 14-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her.

Following police enquiries, Ford was arrested at his home address on 24 June 2023. Officers seized a bicycle matching the descriptions provided by the victims. He had pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault, two counts of indecent exposure, and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on 26 June 2023.

On 27 July 2023, Ford appeared before Winchester Crown Court for sentencing. He was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. Additionally, he received a seven-year restraining order for each of the victims, and his existing Sexual Harm Prevention Order was amended to include further restrictions.

Detective Sergeant Mike Jarvis of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary commented on the case, stating: “Ford’s behaviour towards these women is very worrying and I am glad that he has been held accountable for his actions. I hope this result sends a clear message that we take these reports very seriously and will investigate thoroughly. I am pleased that we have secured justice for these victims.” The force emphasised its commitment to reducing violence against women and girls as a top priority.
