Offence Summary

Adil Khan, a member of the Rochdale grooming gang, was jailed for eight years in 2012 for sexually abusing children, including impregnating one victim and trafficking another for sex using violence. He was released in 2016 but fled the UK in 2025, resulting in a deportation order preventing his return.

Full Description

Adil Khan, aged in his 50s, was one of nine men convicted as part of the notorious Rochdale grooming gang, sentenced at Manchester Crown Court in 2012 for a series of child sex offences. The gang systematically exploited vulnerable young girls in the Rochdale area, targeting them for sexual abuse over several years.

Khan's specific crimes included impregnating one underage victim and trafficking another girl to other members of the gang for sexual purposes. When the second victim objected, Khan used violence to coerce her compliance. These acts formed part of a broader pattern of grooming and sexual exploitation uncovered by Greater Manchester Police during their investigation into the scandal.

Sentenced to eight years' imprisonment on 9 May 2012, Khan was released on licence in 2016 after serving approximately half his term. Upon release, he became subject to compliance checks by Greater Manchester Police to ensure adherence to his licence conditions. However, Khan mounted multiple legal challenges against deportation to his native Pakistan, arguing it would violate his human rights. These appeals delayed his removal from the UK for years.

In early 2025, renewed calls for deportation came from Rochdale Labour MP Paul Waugh, who expressed 'utter outrage' that Khan and his accomplice Abdul Rauf remained in the country despite their convictions for paedophilic abuse. On 21 October 2025, police conducted a routine check at Khan's address and found he was not present. It was subsequently confirmed that he had fled the UK.

The Home Office issued a statement verifying that Khan was under a deportation order, which bars him from ever returning to the UK. MP Paul Waugh welcomed the development, stating: “If this vile paedophile is no longer in the country, that’s very welcome news. His victims, and many of my constituents in Rochdale, will want reassurance that he’s gone for good.” Waugh further noted that while Khan may be gone, efforts must continue to deport Abdul Rauf. The case highlights ongoing issues with deporting foreign national offenders in sex crime cases, as reported by the Manchester Evening News on 4 November 2025.
