Offence Summary

Casper Jax, a convicted child sex offender who changed his name after release from prison, was jailed for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy by squeezing his genitals during a hug and breaching his sexual harm prevention order.

Full Description

A dangerous Exeter sex offender, Casper Jax, aged 59, has been imprisoned again for targeting families with young boys after concealing his criminal history by changing his name. Previously known as Simon Rockey, Jax was sentenced to 13 years in 2015 for grooming and raping a 12-year-old boy. Upon his release in 2021, he adopted the name Casper Jax to evade detection, allowing him to befriend unsuspecting mothers without revealing his past convictions or restrictions on unsupervised contact with children.

The recent offences occurred in 2022, when Jax first befriended a woman and her family, including a 16-year-old boy. Despite being banned from being alone with boys, Jax did not disclose his background. The situation escalated when he confessed his love for the teenager, prompting the horrified mother to sever ties after researching him online—unaware of his prior identity and history due to the name change. Prosecutor Rowan Jenkins detailed at Exeter Crown Court how diligent mothers searched the internet but could not uncover Jax's past because of his altered name.

  • In a separate incident, Jax befriended another woman who had a 14-year-old son.
  • One evening, while alone with the boy, Jax hugged him and groped his genitals by squeezing them.
  • The shocked boy immediately informed his mother, leading to Jax's arrest.

Appearing at Exeter Crown Court on 25 September 2025, Jax admitted one charge of sexual assault and two counts of breaching his sexual harm prevention order. Judge Stephen Climie described Jax's actions post-release as a 'deliberate and dishonest targeting of people with children,' labelling him dangerous. The court heard from the victim's mother, who read a statement expressing her son's resulting anger and wariness towards older men. Defence counsel Francesca Whebell argued that Jax sought friendship after prison but lacked sufficient support, noting his acceptance of needing help for his sexual interest in boys.

Jax, formerly from Bideford, received a custodial sentence of four years, with an additional four years on extended licence to manage his risk. This extended sentence of eight years underscores the ongoing threat he poses. The case was reported by Devon Live, with details from court proceedings highlighting the failures in post-release monitoring that enabled Jax's deception.
